My Philosophy

 babe

Welcome! My name is Tamar and I am a dietitian in Alabama.  I decided to start this blog because my brother has constantly encouraged me to spread my knowledge of healthy living by writing a book or blogging.  During one conversation at the gym, he mentioned it again.  And for some reason that day, I decided that was the final push I needed.  And here we are!

I believe total body wellness is extremely important when it comes to living a happy life. This blog is a way for me to share how I strive for complete health physically and mentally.

I’d like to start with the definition of food from dictionary.com.

Food (noun)- any nourishing substance that is eaten, drunk, or otherwise taken into the body to sustain life, provide energy, promote growth, etc.

My philosophy when it comes to food is that the majority of what you eat and drink should be nourishing the body in a positive way. Food is fuel. I’m not saying that food cannot be eaten for a celebration or enjoyment, but most days and most food choices should be made to sustain us and keep us living. This is where I say my famous phrase during counseling sessions… “Moderation is key.”

My philosophy regarding exercise is very similar.  We are meant to be active creatures!  Hunting and growing our food, building our shelter, and honestly, just surviving was a lot of work…  Now, we are not forced to stay moving.  Life is pretty easy.  But we are still meant to be active.  Trying to be active most days through your week is what I recommend regularly.  This would come down to a minimum of 4 days per week.

My hopes for this blog are to help as many people as possible whether its incorporating more variety at dinner, how to do new exercises, or even encouraging new ways to relax.  So take a look around and enjoy!
